Hookah Charcoal Heaters

This week we wanted to talk more about the role of coal burners. When I first started smoking hookah over 10 years ago I would have an endless supply of matches and lighters around to start my quick lite coals. I recall a few times when I could not find a match in the house or a lighter with enough fluid to spark and light my coal. As a hookah smoker who had just made the perfect bowl I quickly went into panic mode.

As I started smoking more hookah and for longer periods of time I knew there had to be an easier way. I am not knocking the quick lite coals but my preference was for a longer smoking session and preserving my tobacco so that I could get the most out of my session. After checking out some coal burners I quickly realized the benefit if its use. Whether smoking in the house with a few friends or working an event I needed something quicker. Using the coal burner also allowed me to use both natural wood and coconut based charcoal coals. Now I must admit early on I tried to light some coconut coals with no success I held the small coal with my tongs and applied heat from my butane lighter for 5 to 10 minutes. After 10 minutes my lighter was piping hot and empty. I am proud to say that I have come a long way with regards to my hookah prep.

Ok so lets flash forward to 2017, these days you have a lot of different coal burners to choose from ether electric or butane. They range in price from $20 to $80. Now I am not saying that you need to go out and buy the most expensive one or the cheapest. It really does come down to personal preference. While I am not going to get into the different brands I will say check out the reviews for each and see which one you feel the most comfortable with. However, I will tell you the benefit of using a coal burner. Regardless of the type of coals you are using this is a great addition. Quick lite coals will be ready in a matter of seconds versus minutes. My favorite benefit is the addition of the coconut coals. These typically take between 7 and 10 minutes to light. Once lit you can enjoy about an hour of hassle free smoking. We would love to hear your experience with using them. Tell us what you like and what you don’t like.

Hookah Diffuser

This week we wanted to talk more about the role of a diffuser. This plastic or rubber device connects to the bottom of your hookah stem and can range in size depending on the size of your stem. The purpose of the diffuser is to increase the water filtration. This in turn will create smaller bubbles, an easier cleaner pull and it is proven to increase the quality of smoking session. From the first pull there was a noticeable difference in the pull and the sound of the hookah. I must admit at times I miss the loud bubbling sound of my hookah but once you taste the quality of the smoke that longing for hearing the loudness of the hookah will quickly fade. This is by far one of our favorites. Try one out today and let us know what you think.

Kaloud Lotus Hookah Bowl Heat Management

In an attempt to always try to find ways to get the best smoking experience possible we decided to try out the Kaloud Lotus hookah bowl heat management device. As you know when smoking hookah it is key to have good heat distribution. This means having fresh coals free of ash and the movement of coals around the hookah bowl to ensure that you get a nice even burn.

One of the great things about this device is that once you place the coals into the chamber the heat produced is evenly spread across your hookah bowl. Another benefit is that the ash from the coal does not fall into your fresh flavorful shisha bowl. Traditional hookah bowls that are covered with foil or metal covers can allow the ash to fall into your shisha this altering the taste can causing your hookah session to end prematurely or forcing you to change the shisha a lot sooner. One word of caution is to mindful that this device will heat up, so use caution once you are ready to change out the shisha. All in all this is the perfect device for those that do not want to worry themselves with wrapping their bowl in foil and punching holes as a part of the set up process.

Kaloud: Samsaris Vitria Hookah Bowl

In our search to find the perfect hookah bowl we came across the Kaloud Samsaris Vitria®, better known as the world’s first Silcone-Glass Hybrid Bowl. After a few uses the group agreed that this was a great bowl. Its design made packing the bowl very easy. With most bowls the air flow holes are at the bottom of the bowl. Often times when we used tobacco that was very juicy the residue and sometimes the tobacco would drip and fall down the stem of the hookah and ultimately end up in the base. This bowl allows us to allows all of the flavor to remain in the bowl and produce a better smoking experience and will definitely extend your smoking session. This is a great bowls for smokers that enjoy a juicy tobacco such as Starbuzz, Al Fakher and Fumari just to name a few.

The material of the bowl allows the smoker to quickly and safely change the dead of the bowl. With most the heat from the coals will heat the ceramic and clay bowls leave the bowl hot to the touch. One of the issues we ran into after a big party or an event was the risk of breaking bowls. As you know clay bowls when hot can break easily. This can also be the case when someone accidently knocks over your hookah. The last benefit of this bowl is that a plastic/rubber grommet is not necessarily required. This is an added benefit when it comes time to pack and store your hookah.

We all agree that the look and design of this hookah bowl would be a great addition for any smoker and it makes preparation of a great bowl that much easier. Recommend Hookah Etiquette

The Shisha2U crew has been asked more times than we can count as to what is the proper way to smoke hookah. Below are some of the things that we have picked up over the last ten years. Disclaimer in no way shape or form are we saying that this list is the end all be all but it gives you a glimpse at what we found it.

  • Always ask to join
  • Whoever sets up the hookah typically gets the first hit
  • Whoever maintains the coal typically gets the second hit
  • Use a plastic mouthpiece (do not smoke with others if you are sick)
  • Take 2-3 puffs and pass the hose to the left (clockwise)
  • Typically you should smoke with your right hand as in some cultures the left hand can be seen as unclean and offensive
  • If you are smoking with a multi hose you should plug your hose and wait until the person is done before you take a hit
  • When passing to the next smoker fold the hose with the tip pointing towards yourself
  • Never use to the coal to light anything else (i.e. cigarettes)
  • Do not put any trash in the tray (i.e. cigarette ashes, wrappers, etc.)
  • When you are done smoking wrap the hose around the shaft. This will signal that you are finished

Hookah Wind Covers

Another item that all hookah smokers should have is a wind cover. Wind covers are great when it comes to smoking outdoors. Not only do they protect your coals from wind that could decrease the life of your coal, they will also help maintain the heat from your coals. The wind cover also protects you and other smokers from pieces of coal that could go flying should you experience a sudden breeze. A wind cover can also be used in the house to give your hookah a more distinguished look and feel. The size of the covers vary so you can definitely find once that suits your needs. Lastly, this cover could help to protect your bowl should your hookah get knocked over.
